Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, and the choices you have. We do not sell personal information.
Last updated: October 12, 2026
This policy explains what information the San Diego Law Library Foundation (also known as the Law Library Justice Foundation, "the Foundation", "we") collects through sandiegolawlibraryfoundation.org, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to answer you, run our events and accept your support, and we do not sell personal information.
Who we are
The San Diego Law Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable trust that raises support for the San Diego Law Library, the free public law library for San Diego County. The Law Library is a separate public agency with its own website and policies; this policy covers only the Foundation's website.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form. Your name, email address, optional phone number, the topic you choose and your message. The form also records which page of our site you sent it from and, if you arrived from one of our emails or posts, the campaign tags in the link (for example "utm_source=newsletter").
- Event tickets and sponsorships. When you buy tickets for the Witkin Awards Dinner or pay for a sponsorship, you do so on Zeffy, our ticketing platform. Zeffy collects the details needed for the purchase (such as your name, email, billing details and guest names) and shares the order details with us so we can prepare the event.
- Donations. Online donations are made through DonorPerfect, our donation processor. DonorPerfect collects the details needed for the gift and shares the gift record with us so we can thank you and send an acknowledgment.
- Newsletter. If you sign up for updates, we receive your name and email address through our email service provider (Constant Contact).
We never see or store your full card number: payments are handled by Zeffy and DonorPerfect.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our web server records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the date and time. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working, and are kept only for a limited time by our hosting provider.
How we use information
- To reply to your messages and questions.
- To process ticket purchases, sponsorships and donations, and to send receipts and acknowledgments, including acknowledgments for tax purposes.
- To plan and run the Witkin Awards Dinner and recognize sponsors as agreed with them.
- To send our newsletter and event news, if you asked to receive them.
- To keep our records as a charitable organization and meet legal and accounting requirements.
- To protect the website against misuse.
Payment, ticketing and email providers
We rely on a few trusted services that process information on our behalf, each under its own privacy policy:
- Zeffy for event tickets and sponsorship payments.
- DonorPerfect for online donations.
- Constant Contact for our newsletter.
- Our website hosting provider, and the email service that delivers contact form messages to us.
When a ticket or donation form opens in a window over our page, it is loaded directly from that provider, and the information you enter goes to them.
Cookies
Our website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. WordPress may set a few functional cookies, for example for site administrators who log in. The ticketing and donation forms of Zeffy and DonorPerfect, and social media sites we link to, may set their own cookies when you use them; those are covered by their policies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
How we share information
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share it with other organizations for their own marketing. We share information only:
- with the service providers listed above, to do the work we ask of them;
- with the San Diego Law Library when needed to carry out the purpose of your gift or inquiry;
- in event materials, such as sponsor names and logos in the program, only as agreed with the sponsor;
- when required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of the Foundation, our supporters or others.
How long we keep information
We keep messages for as long as needed to respond and follow up. We keep donation, ticket and sponsorship records for as long as required for our accounting, tax and legal obligations. Newsletter subscriptions last until you unsubscribe.
Security
Our site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and payments are handled by providers who specialize in secure processing. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.
Your choices and rights
- You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, subject to records we must keep by law.
- You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time with the link at the bottom of every email.
- California residents: we do not share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. You may ask us about this, and about the information we hold, using the contact details below.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. Because our website does not track visitors across other websites or build advertising profiles, it works the same whether or not this signal is turned on.
Children's privacy
Our website is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
Our site links to other websites, such as the San Diego Law Library, Zeffy, DonorPerfect, Facebook and LinkedIn. We are not responsible for how those sites handle information; please read their privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be noted on this page.
